Heartstopper is a British YA drama live-action series created by Alice Oseman, directed by Euros Lyn and produced by See-Saw Films. It is based on the YA graphic novel Heartstopper.[1] The television rights for the series were purchased by See-Saw Films in 2019 and Netflix acquired distribution rights in 2021.[2] Euros Lyn was enlisted as the director. Various pre-existing songs were used as the series' soundtrack, in addition to an original score by Adiescar Chase. The cinematography and colour grading were planned ahead to give the series a unique atmosphere, amplified by the use of traditional animation adapted from the source material.
Season 1 premiered on Netflix on April 22, 2022.
Heartstopper was originally launched as a web comic via Tumblr and Tapas before subsequently being published by Hachette Children’s Group. The television series is executive produced by Euros Lyn and See-Saw’s Patrick Walters, Jamie Laurenson, Hakan Kousetta, Iain Canning and Emile Sherman with Zorana Piggott as producer.[3]
On May 20, 2022, Netflix announced that the series was renewed for a second and third season respectively.[4][5][6]
On October 2023, it was revealed that Andy Newbery would be taking the role of director from Euros Lyn in an unspecified number of episodes for this season.[7]
