Tara Jones is a main character in the first season of Netflix series Heartstopper. She is portrayed by Corinna Brown.

Biography[]

Season 1[]

On the surface, Tara is a popular girl without a care in the world. But in Heartstopper Season 1, we learn she’s dealing with her own coming out journey.

Season 2[]

Tara continues her growing relationship with quippy girlfriend Darcy.[1]

Personality[]

Tara is kind and down to earth. She's very sweet and caring which is shown when she befriends Elle and when she gives Nick advice. She's extroverted and quite popular, which is why she cares too much about what other people think of her.

Relationships[]

Family[]

Romances[]

Darcy Olsson - Darcy is her romantic partner. They are both part of the orchestra and share classes, so they spend a lot of time together- they even always have lunch together. They have been dating for a while, but according to Darcy, Tara didn't fully realize she was a lesbian until they kissed six times. Her and Darcy are in a secret relationship at the start of the series because Tara doesn't feel comfortable about coming out yet and only a few people know, including Elle after she sees them holding hands. Eventually Tara becomes confident enough to kiss Darcy at Harry Greene's 16th birthday party, come out, and not hide their relationship anymore. She is however faced with a lot of backlash she didn't expect, such as guys complaining she's a lesbian because she's attractive and even going as far as commenting that under her Insta posts, and other girls at her school making homophobic comments. That makes her very sad and, though she doesn't fully regret her decision, she tells Darcy that she did not want things to change and to be seen as another different person just because of her sexuality; she even admits that she's not confident about being a lesbian like Darcy is and that she still feels like she knows nothing and just wants to live her life, to which Darcy replies that they do not know anything either and that they can do that (live their life). Tara and Darcy slowly become Nick's gay mentors and they give him advice about his relationship with Charlie (which he told them about) and start hanging out with the group instead of just Elle. In the last episode, they kiss in front of everyone and it hints at Tara being more confident and not caring at all about what others think this time.

Friends[]

Elle Argent

Tara and Elle are both in the same French class. Though Tara mostly spends time with Darcy and occasionally other classmates, she eventually befriends Elle. She compliments her pencil case and Elle ends up sitting at lunch with Tara and Darcy. Since then, they start spending more time together as a trio and Elle is one of the few people to know about Tara and Darcy's secret relationship, showing that they trust each other and that their relationship is becoming deeper. Tara and Darcy also cheer Elle up when she's nervous about going back to her old school for Sports Day and swear to protect her and hold her hand, showing how much their relationship has evolved.

Nick Nelson

Tara and Nick kissed once when they were 13 and this is one of the reasons why people struggle to believe Tara is a lesbian, which angers Darcy. Tara and Darcy give him advice about his relationship with Charlie and Tara tells him he's the reason she realized she didn't like guys. She jokingly calls him "guy I kissed once".
